Solutions from the Russian NOTIS factory for dosing potting soil, peat, vermicompost, soil mixes and other difficult-to-flow materials into ready-made bags and sacks.
Potting soil, peat and vermicompost may differ significantly in moisture content, particle size and flowability. Some products move freely along a vibratory tray, while others require belt conveying to prevent sticking, clumping and unstable feeding. This is why NOTIS does not offer one universal solution for every product. Before ordering equipment, we recommend sending us a product sample for testing so that our engineers can select the most suitable dosing system.
Belt-Fed Doser
An effective solution for potting soil manufacturers
When a material flows poorly, forms bridges inside the hopper, contains long fibres or tends to compact, a belt-fed dosing system is used. NOTIS manufactures the DODD-NOTIS-50 belt-fed doser. Instead of vibration, the product is conveyed by a belt into the dosing hopper. Once the required dose has been formed, the discharge gate opens and the material is released into a pre-positioned bag.
The operator first places the bag over the filling spout and secures it with a pneumatic bag clamp. After the start button is pressed, the machine automatically dispenses the preset volumetric dose into the bag. Lumps may form inside the hopper during operation, so the machine can be equipped with a powered internal agitator that loosens the material and supports stable feeding.
An adjustable gate controls the thickness of the product layer on the conveyor belt. The belt then travels a preset distance, producing the same product volume during every cycle: length×width×height.
Volumetric or Gravimetric Dosing of Potting Soil
Different DODD-NOTIS configurations
If your potting soil is dry and non-sticky, the machine can be supplied with a weighing hopper instead of the volumetric dosing system. Product feeding stops as soon as the preset weight is reached, after which the dose is discharged into the bag. The video below shows a DODD-NOTIS machine in this configuration:
Bag Closing
Heat sealing or sewing
After dosing, the bag is transferred to a continuous band sealer. The upper edge of the bag is sealed, and the production date is printed below the seal. The package then moves onto the KO-NOTIS-500-Sdf twin-belt conveyor, which flattens and shapes the bag. This produces a compact, flat package that is easier to stack on pallets.
