MGU-NOTIS-03-servo
The latest generation of packaging machines from Siberian engineers
The new machine differs in one key point: the drive of the transverse sealing jaws is now built exclusively on a servo drive. This came after many years of introducing innovative control solutions for affordable asynchronous gear motors. We increased output by up to 40%, improved operating accuracy, and raised drive mechanism reliability.
The main MGU-NOTIS horizontal flow wrapping machine series is still offered in three versions, adapted for different product sizes:
- MGU-NOTIS-03-servo-135 for candies, bars, fruit bars, glazed curd snacks, and vitamin tablets
- MGU-NOTIS-03-servo-150 for crispbread, cookies, ice cream, and household goods
- MGU-NOTIS-03-servo-180/210 for bakery products, bulky sponge packs, and greens in trays
For convenience, the current generation is not always included in the product name on catalog pages: MGU-NOTIS-135. Technical data for older versions may still be shown on some pages, and we will update it.

MGU-NOTIS-01
2004-2011: First in Russia
Twenty years ago, at Rosupack 2004, NOTIS presented its first horizontal flow wrapping machine, MGU-NOTIS-01. To win the market, we needed a unique advantage. Our flow wrapper became the first Russian machine of this type with independent electric drives. This was a major step in improving reliability and simplifying changeover from one product to another.
Independent Drives
Since 2004
Our company is located only ten kilometers from one of the largest scientific centers in Siberia. From the beginning, NOTIS stood out because of a strong engineering team with original methods and a fresh view of equipment design.
The very first NOTIS horizontal machine used only independent electric drives, without mechanical connections such as chains. It had a minimum of mechanics, which is usually the weak point of any automatic system. This became possible thanks to our electronics and control algorithms. MGU-NOTIS machines worked with standard independent electric drives at the precision level of expensive servo systems.
Different drives for the infeed conveyor, film draw, and sealing jaws are controlled by one controller by phase and speed. The system automatically sets the speed and phase relationship between mechanisms.
This independent-drive solution provides key advantages:
- Reliability. There are no mechanical transmissions between drives: no chains, sprockets, cardan shafts, variators, or electromagnetic clutches. The control cabinet contains electronic modules only, and the electronics are repairable because they are produced by NOTIS.
- Changeover in under 3 minutes. The operator enters the pack length, and the system automatically sets the relative speeds and phases. This gives an accurate cut position relative to the print mark and precise product positioning inside the pack.
Reliability from the first machine.
The NOTIS service department tracks the history of each machine to find weak points and improve the design. Even machines older than 15 years often need only ordinary consumables.
For example, in 2017, for the same 2004 MGU-NOTIS with serial number 0001, a customer ordered a set of characters for the hot-stamp dater. The machine continued working. On October 31, 2025, we received a request for the manuals for this machine from a new owner. Twenty-one years in operation.
Development
The NOTIS motto is innovation and continuous improvement. Every year we changed the design and software. In the early years, we actively updated firmware on machines already sold to improve performance and remove early issues. By 2006, the machine had gained a modern design and more compact dimensions.
Later we introduced a flow wrapping machine with bottom film feed for products with unstable shapes or products made of several pieces. In 2011, NOTIS built its first servo-driven packaging machine. It was more expensive than the standard model, but the engineering work helped us develop technology that achieved high speed and accuracy even without expensive servo systems.
MGU-NOTIS-02
2012-2018: High Efficiency
In 2012, at Agroprodmash, we presented MGU-NOTIS-02 with a color touch screen, updated electronics, and a powerful processor. Machine operation became smooth and synchronized even at high speeds. For ice cream packaging we achieved 200 pcs/min, and for small products the average operating speed reached 250 pcs/min.
This attracted the attention of several chocolate factories in Russia. In 2014, NOTIS engineers developed and supplied a fully automated packaging line for candies and bars. The system adapted to production line speed, distributed product flows to several packaging machines, and used contactless product feeding to preserve product shape.
For candies, 250 pieces per minute is a high real operating speed, not just a peak value. We reached the performance level of expensive servo-driven machines while using standard asynchronous motors.
MGU-NOTIS-03-Servo
Since 2023: The Next Level
In 2019, the MGU-NOTIS-03 appeared, at first without the servo suffix. The name was updated after significant improvements in the control system, implementation of new options, and development of the splicer technology.
As in the previous generation, the drives remained independent and were based on affordable asynchronous gear motors: infeed conveyor, film drawing and longitudinal sealing, transverse sealing jaws, and discharge conveyor.
At the end of 2023, we presented the latest generation: MGU-NOTIS-03-servo. The main difference is that the third drive, the transverse sealing jaw drive, is now built on a servo system. This increased output, improved sealing movement accuracy, and made the machine even more stable at high speed.
