July 01, 2004
From June 14 to 18, the 9th International Specialized Exhibition of Materials, Technologies, Machinery and Equipment for Packaging Manufacture — Rosupak 2004 — was held at the Sokolniki Cultural and Exhibition Centre in Moscow. Simultaneously, the 1st International Specialized Aluminium Packaging Salon Alyumupack and the 3rd Russian Specialized Elite Packaging Salon Lyuксупак were also in operation.
The organizer of this major industry forum was the MVK holding company, with support from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as the Soyuzupak and Packmash associations.
Since 1996, when the first Rosupak exhibition was held, the forum has grown significantly, becoming the most important and anticipated event in the packaging industry. Just two years later, in 1998, the exhibition was awarded the Badge of the Union of Exhibitions and Fairs of the CIS and Baltic Countries, and in 1999 at the International Conference of Packaging Exhibition Organizers, Rosupak was named the most representative exhibition in Russia. In 2000 the forum was recognized by the International Union of Fairs, and in 2001 the Sokolniki Cultural and Exhibition Centre, one of the exhibition organizers, became a member of the World Packaging Organization.
Rosupak grows larger every year, attracting an ever-greater number of guests and participants. Last year the exhibition area exceeded 33,000 sq. m., and more than 800 exhibitors occupied 14 pavilions of the Sokolniki Cultural and Exhibition Centre. This year the exhibition area grew further, with 900 companies from more than 35 countries participating. Among the countries whose representatives came to participate in the Rosupak 2004 International Exhibition were not only Russia but also CIS countries, as well as Austria, Germany, India, Italy, Canada, China, Poland, Turkey, the USA, Finland, Switzerland, and many others.
Such interest in packaging is no coincidence — traditionally, high-quality and convenient packaging with original design is considered the face of a product, helps it stand out from the crowd, and helps buyers make their choice. This is why packaging is important to every industry, and in the food sector its significance is hard to overestimate.
The subject matter of Rosupak covers the entire packaging industry. The pavilions of the Sokolniki Cultural and Exhibition Centre hosted stands from manufacturers and suppliers of varnishes, adhesives, printing consumables, printing materials, polymers, printing inks, solvents, chemical raw materials, photographic materials, PET preforms, packaging paper, corrugating paper, sheet lithographic tinplate, corrugated board and polyethylene-coated board, transport packaging materials, multilayer paper- and board-based packaging materials, sausage casings, polyethylene film — both for food use and other purposes — stretch film and laminating film, foil, glass containers, labels, aluminium and tinplate cans, plastic cans and jerricans, bottles, drums, various bags and pouches, flexible packaging, all types of containers, trays, disposable tableware — and that is far from a complete list of the exhibitors' fields of activity. Companies producing equipment for various packaging operations were also of great importance — they too familiarized visitors and participants with their latest achievements.
Naturally, for many companies an exhibition is not only an opportunity to make themselves and their products known among specialists, but also a way to somehow underline the uniqueness of their offering. Therefore, Rosupak 2004 exhibitors strove to attract the attention of forum guests.
The stands of many participants stood out for their bright design and unusual products, constantly attracting visitors. For example, GeoPak LLC (Moscow), a regular Rosupak participant, presented its original stand design. The company's display featured samples of transport packaging with multi-colour printing. Special attention was paid to the colourfulness of the packaging. In addition, new production lines installed at the enterprise at the beginning of 2004 allow a qualitatively new level of corrugated product die-cutting. Today, GeoPak offers high-level service and excellent-quality corrugated products.
The Tender Group (Moscow) was not participating in Rosupak for the first time. This year, Tender presented its new project for producing multilayer heat-shrinkable films based on polyolefins using the Double Bubble technology. Confirming the company's expectations, a very large number of potential consumers showed interest in the project. The company held a large number of negotiations at which preliminary agreements were reached on supplies of the new film. Many foreign companies also showed interest in the new project, and Tender received preliminary orders for product delivery abroad.
In addition to polyolefin film, the company presented at Rosupak 2004 products it has been manufacturing for several years: bags, sacks, and various polyethylene film. Despite strong competition in this segment of the packaging market, many supply contracts were signed.
The Tender Group has participated and will continue to participate in internationally significant packaging exhibitions such as Rosupak. Next year, the company hopes to present a number of further projects for the production of new types of packaging needed by consumers.
Other Moscow exhibitors also introduced specialists to their new products. For example, presenting new types of packaging has become something of a tradition for Komus-Upakovka — a regular participant in the Rosupak and Lyuksupak salon. This time, nine products were demonstrated, all without analogues on the Russian market, enabling domestic food manufacturers to stop using imported packaging. Komus-Upakovka has more than once been a diploma winner and prize winner in the forum competition "Packaging — Star of Russia". And another gold medal received this year for a series of square cake boxes confirmed the quality level of Komus packaging and the firm's high standing in the Russian market.
