Crispbread package types
Formed on NOTIS equipment
Piece packaging, where a stack of crispbread slices is treated as one piece product:
- Standard Flow Pack
A flow pack is formed on horizontal flow wrapping machines. It is a three-seal package with two cross seals and one longitudinal seal.
- Gusseted Flow Pack
A gusseted package has side folds near the seals. This is especially useful for thicker packs or round crispbread, making the package tighter.
- End-sealed package
This is the most premium version. Flow packs pass through a special conveyor where the ends are pressed and heat-shrunk. Such packs stand neatly on shelves and are easier to transport and pack into cases.
- Flow Pack with crispbread in a plastic tray
Weight filling of small crispbread slices or mini crispbread into formed bags. Internally we classify this as a piece-form product: it is harder to dose than free-flowing granular products such as rice. If you need to fill small crispbread by weight, see the options below.

Piece and Stack Packaging
Option 1. Horizontal flow wrapper for crispbread

For automatic crispbread packaging, a horizontal flow wrapper MGU-NOTIS-150 is often enough. The machine can produce up to 100 neat flow packs per minute. A gusset former can be added as an option; its cost is usually about 5% of the machine price. A date printer is also usually required.
Printer
The printer is optionally installed on the MGU-NOTIS-150 and prints information in sync with the packaging cycle. We usually offer either a thermal printer or an inkjet printer. Inkjet printing gives clearer marking and more information, but costs several times more. We recommend inkjet printing for premium products.
Crispbread orientation limits
A standard horizontal flow wrapper has an important requirement: either the stack of crispbread placed on edge must be perpendicular to the longitudinal seal, or wide crispbread slices must be stacked flat on top of each other. This is because standard pushers move the product into the film tunnel. If narrow crispbread is placed along the seal, the pusher catches only the center of the stack and can break it apart. For other orientations, use a bottom-feed flow wrapper, see Option 2.
Perpendicular orientation
The video at the top of this page shows crispbread packed on edge perpendicular to the longitudinal seal: Made in Kuzbass.
Flat stacked orientation
With this orientation, the package width matches the crispbread width. A similar packaging process for flat stacks is shown in our archive cookie video.
Option 2. Bottom-feed horizontal flow wrapper

The MGU-NOTIS-N-210 is ideal when crispbread must be packed on edge along the longitudinal seal.
Along-the-pack orientation
This orientation is possible only on a bottom-feed horizontal flow wrapper. It makes it easier to take crispbread slices out one by one after opening the end of the package.
In the MGU-NOTIS-N-210, thin rods act as pushers and move the product into the film tunnel. The crispbread then travels on the moving film into the sealing area. The result is a flow pack, or a gusseted package if the option is installed. Thermal or inkjet printers are available as in Option 1.
Option 3. Crispbread line with end sealing

See the detailed description of the line in our catalog: packaging line for edge-stacked flat products. It produces tight, neat, high-quality crispbread packages. The package ends look excellent on both rectangular and round crispbread.
Option 4. Budget solution for crispbread in a tray

The semi-automatic inclined packaging machine MGU-NOTIS-NK-375 forms flow packs for products placed in plastic trays or cardboard supports. The operator manually loads the product on a tray, and it moves down the incline into the packaging section, where a flow pack is formed and sealed. The tray keeps the product from falling apart.
Weight Filling
Crispbread is mostly packed as individual pieces or stacks, but it is also sold as snack pieces filled by weight. NOTIS manufactures a wide range of equipment for filling piece-form products with different output levels. Bread chips, crackers and crispbread snacks can be weighed accurately and sealed neatly in formed bags.
- Low-cost, low-output manual packaging machines for forming pillow bags, a separate weigh filler, or a combined semi-automatic machine.
- Budget high-accuracy VFFS machine as a replacement for the semi-automatic solution above.
- VFFS machines based on 3-head or 4-head weigh fillers. With options, these machines can form pillow bags, flat-bottom bags, clip-closure bags and bags with reinforced edges.
- Automated packaging line with a multi-head weigher. The same package types are available.
