How NOTIS engineers used electronics to make the cookie packaging machine more affordable than competitors' alternatives
Testing the new flow wrapper at the NOTIS assembly shop immediately after manufacture
The flow wrapper MGU-NOTIS-150 was made to order for a confectionery factory in Voronezh. The machine wraps kurabiye shortbread cookies in plastic correx trays in film and prints the date on each package.
Cookies in open trays are placed on the infeed conveyor. The machine then wraps each tray in film. The film is sealed with a longitudinal bottom seam, then passes into the cross sealing jaws — a unit that seals the cross seam and cuts the package into an individual unit.
A distance of 3,380 km is no obstacle
So what sets the MGU-NOTIS-150 flow wrapper apart from the rest?
First, notice the neat appearance of the packages in the video: no creases, strong seams, clean zigzag cut. The date is printed by a thermal printer from a third-party Turkish manufacturer.
Second, the flow wrapper can be equipped with a full range of available options:
- "no product — no bag",
- splicer, or continuous film roll changeover system
- labeller
- nitrogen flushing system for oxygen displacement
- gusset bag former
- and more
Third, unique know-how that allowed us to lower the cost while actually improving machine reliability.
What Makes It Advantageous

Unlike cheap alternatives, the machine has a genuinely robust design built for daily operation over many years. We still receive consumable and spare part requests for our machines that are 20 years old — and we are glad for our customers around the world. By the way, the most distant MGU-NOTIS-150 from us operates in Dubai.
There are many advantages to list, but it is worth highlighting the key unique know-how. The machine has 3 independent electric drives with no mechanical links such as chains or similar, and a minimum of mechanics overall — the weakest element of any automated system. Yet the machine operates in perfect synchrony, comparable to expensive servo drives, even at speeds of around 300 packages per minute.
For reference: one motor–gearbox–frequency converter set costs tens of thousands of roubles. One servo motor–servo amplifier set costs 10 times more — already hundreds of thousands. Multiply by 3, and the difference is substantial.
The secret lies in the unique work of our software engineers. The drives are controlled in phase and speed by a single controller. The system automatically establishes the speed and phase ratios of the mechanisms relative to each other.
