21 years later — two new lines at once: a cereal supplier from Kemerovo returns to NOTIS equipment - Cases

August 12, 2026

More than twenty years ago, the customer purchased a simple NOTIS packaging machine. In 2026, the company returned — placing two orders at once for modern cereal packaging lines: one for bags up to 2 kg and another for ready-made sacks from 3 to 30 kg.

One customer, but two different packaging applications. For retail products, the customer needed cereals packed into smaller bags formed from rollstock film. For HoReCa and household customers, a high-output line was required for filling ready-made sacks.

If you are also planning to expand your cereal production in bags or sacks, send us your product specifications and required output. We will select equipment to match your budget and production volumes.

Challenge

A partnership that began more than 20 years ago

The customer works with breakfast cereals, grains and other free-flowing food products. The new project required products to be packed in two different formats: small consumer bags and ready-made sacks.

The history of this partnership is particularly interesting. The first order was placed 21 years ago, when the company purchased a MUSP-01-NOTIS manual packaging machine. Over the years, the machine changed owners but remained in operation. Even two decades later, we manufactured spare parts specifically for this machine. Its new owners ordered a cutting knife at the end of 2025.

After a long break, the customer returned to NOTIS and ordered two complete systems at once. The goal was to package cereals for several market segments, so two substantially different packaging formats were selected:

Solution

Two independent systems for different packaging formats

NOTIS manufactured two specialized systems. Both lines handle the complete process from product feeding to finished packaging, but they operate on different principles.

On the first line, the package is automatically formed from rollstock film, filled with product and sealed. The second line uses ready-made sacks: the operator manually attaches them to the weigh filler, after which the filled sacks are automatically lowered onto a conveyor and transferred to the sewing station.

1. Automated line for smaller packages

When output requirements exceed 40 bags per minute, cereal producers are accustomed to choosing multihead weighers. They are more expensive and more complex to maintain than linear weighers, but unlike most basic weighers, they can provide the required accuracy.

Multihead weighers certainly do the job, but for free-flowing products they are often unnecessary when NOTIS technology is used. Our linear weighers provide accuracy and stable operation through proprietary electronics and feedback-based control algorithms. Unique engineering solutions also help increase speed. For example, OTV technology uses an intermediate hopper above the forming collar to reduce the controlled product discharge time.

Since 2026, we guarantee an output of 60 bags per minute instead of 55 on the MDU-NOTIS-08M-OTV at doses of around 1,000 grams. We have significantly upgraded the transverse sealing unit used to produce gusseted bags.

2. Sack filling line

14 sacks per minute at a 5 kg fill weight

Oat flakes, 5 kg

For larger packages, a separate line was built around the twin-spout DVDD-NOTIS-30-A-2Rch-GPK weigh filler. The number 30 in the model designation indicates the maximum fill weight. To ensure accuracy, load cells with the appropriate sensitivity must be selected. We therefore offer versions for 1–10, 5–50 or 3–30 kg doses, with the 3–30 kg version used in this project.

At a 5 kg fill weight, the line can achieve 14 sacks per minute or even more. How is this high output achieved?

  1. Two filling spouts work alternately.

While one sack is being filled, the operator attaches the next sack to the second spout using a pneumatic clamp. This minimizes idle time between filling cycles.

  2. The weigh filler prepares the next batch in advance.

By the time a new sack is positioned, the next batch has already been weighed into the pre-weigh hopper. As soon as the sack is secured, the product is discharged immediately. The mechanism then automatically lowers the filled sack onto the conveyor, which carries it to the bag sewing station.

  3. High speed without compromising accuracy.

NOTIS linear weigh fillers use proprietary control algorithms. Our engineers develop both the electronics and software, giving us full control over the weighing process. The system analyzes previous weighing results and automatically adjusts the product feed dynamics to suit the specific product. This makes it possible to combine high throughput with accurate weighing.

Result

Two lines manufactured and shipped to the customer

Before shipment, our equipment always undergoes factory testing. We test the lines using the customer's actual product and record the equipment in operation on video. This allows the customer to evaluate the result before the equipment is shipped.

Equipment shipment

Equipment being shipped to Kemerovo

Both systems have now been shipped to the customer's facility in Kemerovo. The next stage of the project is installation supervision and commissioning with the participation of NOTIS engineers.

After startup, NOTIS specialists continue to support the equipment. Our machines come with a one-year warranty, but technical support does not end when the warranty expires. If a problem occurs, our engineers provide free consultation by phone or messenger, help identify the cause and recommend a solution. If the issue cannot be resolved remotely, we can arrange an on-site service visit.

NOTIS is a full-cycle manufacturer: we develop and manufacture the equipment, electronics and software ourselves. This means we can service and modernize our own machines even decades after they were built.
