Engineering precision in a harsh environment: how NOTIS optimised the filling of cast iron and steel modifiers containing rare-earth metals
NPP Tekhnologiya
About the client and the product
NPP Tekhnologiya is a Chelyabinsk, Russia-based manufacturer of specialised metallurgical additives that improve the properties of cast iron and steel, making them stronger and more consistent in service. Since 1996 the company has developed and produced over 150 product types, supplying 450+ facilities in 14 countries. The products contain silicon, magnesium, calcium, and rare-earth metals: cerium, lanthanum, yttrium. They are filled into automatically formed bags of 15–20 kg and ready-made sacks up to 50 kg.
Mineral Weigher
An environment that eats through metal
The company's website features a production video showing a NOTIS linear weigh filler with pneumatic sack clamp in operation.
Metallurgical modifiers are abrasive, fine-particle, dusty materials. Standard filling equipment wears out quickly in this environment: the fine fraction methodically grinds down working surfaces, and dust penetrates mechanisms and electronics.
In the DVDD-NOTIS-50-GPP weigher, all product-contact parts — funnels, chutes, sack clamp — are made from stainless steel. Every NOTIS machine frame is engineered for operation in dusty environments. All steel structural assemblies undergo shot-blasting on German equipment before the polymer coating is applied. Cleaning down to bare metal before painting ensures strong paint adhesion. Compare the condition of ten-year-old used NOTIS equipment with machines from other manufacturers on any used equipment marketplace.

Accuracy
The NOTIS competitive advantage
NOTIS weigh fillers have run on proprietary electronics from the very beginning — thirty years of continuous algorithm development. Standard linear weighers deliver the first part of each dose quickly and coarsely, then slow down to fine-tune the remainder. NOTIS engineers developed unique feedback algorithms that optimise filling dynamics. Every weighing is recorded and the running mean is continuously corrected toward the nominal.
Applicable standards allow a deviation of up to −1% on an individual pack at a 15 kg dose. But that does not mean a manufacturer can ship packs 150 g short of the stated weight. The second GOST requirement is stricter: the mean batch weight must not fall below nominal. The typical way to comply is to overfill by 50–100 g per pack as a buffer. On a product containing expensive rare-earth components, that is a significant material loss.
NOTIS algorithms hold the mean batch weight exactly at nominal — gram for gram. No systematic overweight, no GOST violation, consistent performance day after day.
Automated Line
Forming bags from film and filling into them
A separate line at the facility fills into polyethylene bags formed from film roll at doses of 15 and 20 kg. This line was also supplied by NOTIS.
